How it is performed
A morning venous draw, timed to the daily hormonal rhythm. For menstruating patients, cycle timing is agreed in advance so that results are interpretable.
How to prepare
Fast for ten to twelve hours and attend between 08:00 and 10:00. Tell us about any hormonal medication, contraception or supplements, including biotin, which interferes with several assays.
How we read it
As a system. Low free testosterone with high SHBG is a different problem from low total testosterone, and both are read alongside insulin, inflammation and sleep before anything is prescribed.
